To find the volume of an irregular solid, you can use the water
displacement method. You take a certain volume of liquid that is
measured to a line (like in a measuring cup) so you know it's
exact, and drop the solid in the water and see how much it rises.
The difference between the water with the solid and the water
without is the volume of the solid.
It's not easy to find exactly.
The best way is to drop the object in a fluid (i.e. water) then
see the volume of the fluid that is displaced.
In a lab, you could use a volumetric flask for small
objects.
For example, if you had 100 cm3 of water in the flask, you put
the object in, then you found that the new volume of water was 122
cm3, you would know that the object's volume was 122-100 = 22
cm3.
