iliac crest
It is known as the iliac crest. It is located at the superior (upper) edge of the ilium. In females, the iliac crest is longer, and curves outward (laterally) more so than in males. This is part of the wider structure of the ilium in females, than in males, which accounts for wider hips as a norm.
The superior margin of the hip bone is the Iliac Crest.
Ilium Ischium Pubis
In anatomy, a crest refers to a prominent ridge or projection on a bone surface, often serving as a point for muscle attachment. These crests provide structural support and aid in the movement of the associated muscles. Examples include the iliac crest in the pelvis and the crest of the tibia in the lower leg.
Your femur (upper leg bone) head attaches (articulates) with the acetabulum (the socket) in the pelvic bone forming the hip joint.
The femur
The hip bone functions to provide support for the upper body when you are standing. The hip also plays an important role in the actions of walking and running.
Males do have a pubic bone. The pubic bone is the front bone portion of the pelvis or pelvic crest in the lower abdomen. Holds your hip bones together.
Ilium - you have one either side of your midline. The continue from the sacrum at the back to the pubis at the front. The uppermost part is called the iliac crest. You can normally feel the Anterior Superior Iliac spine as your front "hip bone" and the Posterior Superior Iliac spine as your rear "hip bone" - they are different parts of the same continuous bone.
what does it mean when hip bone pain runs down to upper part of leg
Your hip and back bone take the same interesting role in your body. The hip and back bones make you run, walk, sit, stand, bend, and anything else involving moving. If you did not have those bones in your hip and your back, you'd be like a giant spaghetti! the hip bone protects the organs in your ribs.
