Achan
They obeyed him as God's appointed leader. Achan was an exception to this when he plundered from Jericho.
Achan was an Israelite that lived during the time that the nation was wandering in the wilderness for 40 years. When they destroyed Jericho, all the Israelites were instructed not to pillage anything from the city. But Achan took and hid a costly garment, gold and silver and buried it under his family's tent. This brought calamity to the Israelites and after his theft was discovered, the family was put to death.
The biblical account states that Achan buried stolen idols under his tent. Achan was an Israelite who took forbidden spoils from the city of Jericho after the Israelites conquered it, going against God's command. As a result, he and his family were punished and stoned to death for their disobedience.
Achan was in the tribe of Judah when they crossed the Jordan River into Jericho. The city was to be destroyed completely, and it's 'silver and gold' was supposed to go to the treasury(Joshua 6:17+19). When Achan came across some items he liked, he took them for himself, basically stealing from God, and hid them under his tent(Joshua 7:21). God withdrew his spirit from Israel until they did something about this 'secret sin'(Joshua 7:4-18). Because Achan had directly disobeyed God's orders, attempting to hide his sin, admitting it only when he was forced to, he and his whole family(for which HE was responsible) was put to death by stoning, and everything he owned was then burned up so there was nothing left (Joshua 7:19-26).
Achan was an Israelite man who disobeyed God's command not to take spoil from the city of Jericho (Joshua 6:18, 19). His sin brought a curse upon the Israelites, and resulted in his destruction, along with his family and all that he owned. The account is found in Joshua chapters 6 and 7.
Rehab
They temporarily lost God's protection because Achan (an Israelite man) violated the oath at Jericho (that they wouldn't take from the spoils of the city).

After the fall of Jericho, the Israelites were instructed to take riches for God, but Achan, seeing a beautiful garment and silver and gold, took some for himself and buried it beneath the family tent. When the Israelites were about to take Ai, Joshua sent scouts ahead and they returned telling him that it would take less men than they thought to take Ai, so Joshua sent only 3000 men to defeat Ai. Ai however met them and there was much bloodshed for the Israelites. When Joshua heard of this he asked God, why God were we defeated when You said that You would be with us? God replied that Israel had sinned against Him and that Joshua was to gather the people the next day and that God would tell him who sinned. The next day, God, by telling them that the offender was from the tribe Achan was from, but Achan did not think they would think it was him because there were hundreds in his tribe. Then God named the family that was to blame and then the person, Achan, from that family. Achan confessed to Joshua what he had taken and where he had hidden it. Joshua told the people that Achan had sinned against God and had to be punished. Achan was then killed and all his possessions burned.
