The Battle of Trafalgar was fought on 21 October 1805.
Nelson's column was erected in ommemoration of Admiral Horatio Nelson, who died at the Battle of Trafalgar. The column did not exist at the start of the battle!
458 were killed and 1208 were wounded (the French and Spanish total amounted to just over 13,000 killed wounded and captured)
