Either the functionality is turned off (I do this about 30 seconds after a fresh installation) or the files were too large for the size you have assigned to the 'Recycle Bin'. Also be aware that different hard disk drives can have different settings (check your 'bin') and that removable media typically don't have a 'Recycle Bin' so when you delete something it's gone.
