The cells of heart muscle are striated (like stripes on a tie) as is skeletal muscle. Cardiac muscle is a type of involuntary striated muscle found only in the walls of the heart. They can contract but also carry an action potential (i.e. conduct electricity), like the neurons that constitute nerves. Some of the cells have the ability to generate an action potential, known as cardiac muscle automaticity. That is they beat on their own and in union with each other.

Cardiac muscle is a type of involuntary striated muscle found only in the walls of the heart. This is a specialized muscle that, while similar in some fundamental ways to smooth muscle and skeletal muscle, has a unique structure and with an ability not possessed by muscle tissue elsewhere in the body. Cardiac muscle, like other muscles, can contract, but it can also carry an action potential (i.e. conduct electricity), like the neurons that constitute nerves.Furthermore, some of the cells have the ability to generate an action potential, known as cardiac muscle automaticity (meaning the can and do beat on their own).
The electrical potential difference across a cell membrane (the resting potential) is around -65 mV, inside negative. In nerve cells (neurones) or muscle cells this potential difference is reversed during an action potential. Sodium (Na+) channels open and Na+ ions enter the cell down their concentration gradient. This entry of positive charge depolarises the membrane ie it cancels out the resting pootential and then reverses it, so the potential becomes positive inside and negative outside, giving a potential of about +50mV.

Muscle force is the force produced by the contraction of a muscle. Force vectors, torque vectors, and difference vectors can all be used to help describe this force.
Muscle cells are called muscle fibers because of their long, slender shape that resembles a fiber. The structure of muscle cells allows them to contract and generate force, which is essential for muscle function. The term "fiber" is used to describe the long, cylindrical shape of these cells that run parallel to each other in muscle tissue.

Glycolosis (in the cytoplasm) and aerobic metabolism (in the mitochondria) are used to generate ATP from glucose in muscle cells.
Action potential duration in skeletal muscle is around 2 - 5 milliseconds.
The terms used to describe the shape of a muscle are; deltoid and rhomboid.

The masseter muscle is the major jaw muscle, and is able to generate more force than any other muscle in the body.
