Did I sound snarky when I said "You are welcome. You don't have to thank me."?
I brought cupcakes to a meeting, as a nice gesture for the guy of interest who was holding/presenting the meeting. There have been some misunderstandings between us in the past and he knows I have a crush on him. He thanked me various times, and at the end of the meeting thanked me again. I just said "You are wecome. You don't have to thank me. Then he made a sound like he wanted to cry but didn't say anything. Why he got emotional. DId he think I sounded rude? I honestly never said it with a tone. I thought I said it neutral. Did I sound snarky? I genuinely thought he was thanking me too many times.
No, you didn't sound snarky at all. Maybe he wasn't really having the best day and really needed a cupcake. He was probably super thankful.

When anyone says "thank you" it isn't polite to respond back with "you don't have to thank me." Say "you're welcome." that is fewer words and none that could make the other feel stupid by even saying "thank you" I do understand how you may of meant it, but it is also easy to see how it may make one feel dumb.
