Alfred Wegener proposed the theory of Continental Drift in 1912.
Yes he came from a wealthy family
The theory of Pangaea was proposed by Alfred Wegener in 1912. Wegener suggested that the continents were once connected in a supercontinent known as Pangaea and have since drifted apart.
Starting as a boy, you need to come from a wealthy family in order to be a knight. Knights are from wealthy familys.
Alfred Wegner was the first person to come up with continental drift
he had evidence from the mountain range that were there. and that the same fossils were found in the different continents.
Alfred Wegener faced criticism because his theory of continental drift lacked a convincing mechanism to explain how continents moved. The scientific community at the time rejected Wegener's ideas because he couldn't provide a satisfactory explanation for what caused the continents to drift. It wasn't until the theory of plate tectonics was developed in the 1960s that Wegener's ideas gained widespread acceptance.

Barbara McClintock came from a wealthy family. Her father was a physician, and her family was financially stable, allowing her to pursue her education and career in science.
One reason the scientific community doubted him was because he wasn't able to come up with an explanation for how the continents were moving, & where the force to move them was coming from.
Alfred Wegener was a German weatherman (more specifically, a meteorologist at the University of Marburg) who wrote a book, "Die Entstehung der Kontinente und Ozeane," or "The Origin of Continents and Oceans" on the idea of Pangaea. This book came out in 1912 in Germany and 1915 in the USA, despite the First World War going on. Although Alfred Wegener is often recognized as being the originator of the idea of Pangaea, the American geologist Frank Bursley Taylor started theorizing about Pangaea in 1908. He did not, however, really go anywhere with this idea and didn't come up with the name "Pangaea". Alfred Wegener did.
Alfred Wegener came up with the idea of Pangaea by observing the fit of South America and Africa's coastlines, as well as similarities in rock formations and fossils on different continents. He proposed the theory of continental drift to explain how the Earth's landmasses were once joined together in a supercontinent called Pangaea before drifting apart over time.
