If you mean Hirojima? Then no.. the Americans bombed Hirojima and Nagasaki with nuclear bombs.
But if you mean the island Iwo jima, then I can answer it with a definite yes! It is said that Iwo jima was the turning point in the pacific war. It was one of the bloodiest battles fought during the pacific war. From about twenty thousand Japanese soldiers only 216 survived.
