Dwight Hamilton Baldwin was an itinerant music teacher in the singing school tradition, although he also taught violin and reed organ. In 1866 Lucien Wulsin was hired as a clerk, becoming a partner in 1873 with the formation of D.H.Baldwin Company. Baldwin built pianos under the names Hamilton, Howard, Sargent, Winton, Chickering, Wurlitzer and even the Bechstein Piano.

The 1921 Winton (Baldwin) Upright Piano, was a famous family piano.
