Yes. Beethoven studied under Haydn, but the two did not have much of a rapport. Beethoven greatly admired Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, but was only able to have one lesson with Mozart before being recalled back to Bonn as his mother was ill.

Haydn did not teach Beethoven how to play an instrument, but he did give Beethoven lessons in musical composition. Beethoven struggled with Haydn as a teacher, and the two did not really get along.

Why did Beethoven stop playing the piano?

It has been said that Haydn was so busy with his own work, composing such masterpieces as "The Creation," that he didn't take the time study and correct the exercises that he had assigned to Beethoven. But this opinion is based on the fact that only few of Haydn's corrections and comments are found on the exercises that have survived on paper. It is entirely possible that Haydn gave his comments to Beethoven verbally rather than in writing. So the charge that Haydn was negligent must be taken with a grain of salt. It should be remembered that Haydn and Beethoven had opposing temperaments and working habits. Haydn was always very orderly and neat, but Beethoven was disorganized and messy. Beethoven often seemed jealous of Haydn while Haydn was still active as a composer, offering Haydn due respect only after Haydn had been forced by advanced age into retirement.

What other famous composer did Beethoven study with in Vienna?

Beethoven studied composition with the pianist and composer Christian Gottleib Neefe and then, on a much larger scale with Joseph Haydn. He also studied counterpoint with Albrecthsberger and Schenk. He learnt violin with a man named Franz Ries and was also taught piano by singer and teacher Johann van Beethoven (his father). In 1787, Beethoven's teacher Christian Neefe suggested that he travel to Vienna to take lessons from Mozart, who was greatly impressed by Beethoven's ability and talent, and Mozarts rival, Antonio Salieri.

Who were some composers that worked with Ludwig von Beethoven?

If you mean worked with in the sense of collaborating, that wasn't his thing; he tended to get low marks on "works and plays well with others". :-)He did tend to be influenced by the musicians for which he wrote, such as the violin virtuoso Ignaz Schuppanzigh, who likely influenced Beethoven's string quartets. He was also friendly with composers Louis Spohr and Carl Maria von Weber, among others. In terms of those composers with whom Beethoven studied, he was taught composition by Christian Neefe in Bonn; after meeting Joseph Haydn, Beethoven decided to move to Vienna where he could study with the recognized master of the symphony and string quartet forms. It seems Haydn and Beethoven had a difficult teacher/student relationship (one can only imagine!), and Beethoven studied with Albrechtsberger on the side. He also studied composition in the vocal forms with Salieri, who despite his representation in the movie Amadeus was a quite gifted composer and apparently a very capable teacher.

Did Beethoven ever study?

Beethoven's first teacher was his father, an accomplished musician, who started giving him music lessons at an early age. He first played publicly at the age of seven. When he was nine, Beethoven began studying with Christian Gottlob Neefe in Bonn. He continued to study under Neefe for about seven years. It was during that period that his first compositions were published. At the age of seventeen, Beethoven traveled to Vienna, in hopes of studying with Mozart. However, it is unknown whether they ever actually met. He returned to Bonn after two weeks. At the age of twenty-two, Beethoven again traveled to Vienna, where he studied under Joseph Haydn for about two years. He received specialized instruction from other teachers, as well.

What string quartets did Mozart study before composing his Haydn quartets?

Haydn's quartets Opus,17, 20, and especially Op.33. In1782, Mozart also began a thorough study of the works of Bach and Handel at the urging of Baron van Swieten. These did not include any string quartets, yet their influence on the "Haydn" quartets is obvious and strong. Of course, Mozart was also acquainted with the quartets of Richter, Dittersdorf, Vanhal, and the other Mannheim and Viennese composers, but in the "Haydn" quartets he is moving away from their ideas.
