She only felt a tug, but she didn't feel any excruciating pain. Sometimes when people get severely injured, they don't feel much pain since the brain already knows there's pain. But Bethany experienced what's called phantom pain, when you feel pain for a limb that's not there and this happens when pain receptors don't reach the brain until after the limb is gone.
Her book soul surfer tells all about the attack! She was on her board in Hawaii and a tiger shark came out of no where and in a split second tugged on her left arm and it tore off.
The most possible cause was that the shark was aggravated by the sunlight reflecting off of Bethany's watch. (Sunlight, shiny objects and blood easily attract and can sometimes make sharks feel threatened)
If the book is anything like the movie (too often, that's not the case), then the theme of the book is that what we often think of as important or the be-all end-all really isn't that crucial sometimes and that what we're meant to do is often different than what we think it is, so keep your mind and your heart open. That's what I got from it anyway. I think a secondary theme is also that if you want something, truly know why you want it and keep working smart, not only hard, to achieve it, despite taking some bumps along the way. If anyone thinks I'm wrong, please feel free to improve my answer.
her friends and her family was by her side she had god with her the whole time god loves you and everyone "God will never forget you or pretray you" that is what the guy in the ambulance said to Bethany Hamilton to make her feel better it is in the book Soul Surfer Written By Bethany Hamilton
A shark feels like sandpaper.
The shark would fall into the category of cartilaginious fish. Cartilage is the tough outer skin of a shark. If you feel the inside of your ear, it will feel similar to a shark's skin.
