We are not told that, so we can only speculate, based on the chronology in the book of Genesis. After the killing of Abel, there was a curse placed on Cain by God. By request, to protect him from further torture and murder, God placed a sign (mark) on Cain, promising that anyone who killed him would receive of the curse sevenfold. After leaving the presence of God, it is said that Cain went east of Eden and settled in the land of Nod. It is likely there he married his wife, although he may have known her from childhood since everyone was from the same family.
