There is overwhelming evidence (including Columbus' own correspondence) which documents his torture, rape, enslavement, and mass murder of Native Americans during the Spanish American conquest. Yes, he was very cruel. He started out nice, but then turned mean. Among other things he forced the natives to convert to Christianity.
