Christopher Columbus named the Natives of America Indians. Christopher Columbus gave this name because he thought he was near the Indian ocean and the people were Indians.
No, Christopher Columbus was the one who was given credit for discovering America. The Vikings discovered America long before Columbus. His travels started the permanent contact between Europe and the Americas. He never landed on the North American continent.
because he enslaved native Indians and made them work for him, he sent the natives over to Spain to work for them he murdered them all basically and he wiped out a whole population and culture and that's the sum of it with more details though. He was a very bad man. oh and he forced them all to go into Christianity through a oath that they didn't understand and then they got punished for it and the work was under bad conditions and they were put in the cargo hold as in for property not human beings and the beat, tortured, or killed the natives if they couldn't keep up with the work
Columbus never called the country he discovered as America. In his book A New World Revealed he wrote he had gone to Indies meaning thereby INDIA only. America name was given much later after the immigrants ousted the Native Indians.
Europeans discovered the West Indies and North and South America (Europeans didn't know of those places at the time). Native Americans were given the name "Indian" by Columbus. Also, when Columbus came to North America he and his men started to destroy the environment by cutting down forests and killing animals and sending them to Europe. This affected the natives dramatically. And don't forget that the natives were also discriminated against because of their way of living and their religion.
When Columbus arrived in 1492 he soon noticed the wealth that the native american possesed. After he had been given a small gold tiara from the natives he saw this as a sign of surrender. He went back to europe and one year later came to america again with 14 ships, with the bible in one hand and the sword in the other. He seeked gold and glory but he went in the name of god ( only his opinion).
