Europeans discovered the West Indies and North and South America (Europeans didn't know of those places at the time).
Native Americans were given the name "Indian" by Columbus. Also, when Columbus came to North America he and his men started to destroy the environment by cutting down forests and killing animals and sending them to Europe. This affected the natives dramatically. And don't forget that the natives were also discriminated against because of their way of living and their religion.
Columbus only took 4 trips and never got further than Cuba, so he didn't find any mainland. Yet, he opened the door for others to go further and seek longer. He brought disease to the natives he met and when the New World met the Old World what had been was gone.
