No. Not at all. Tibet was occupied by the Chinese and is no longer. It is part of China now. The Dalai lama is a great man, but not a wizard.

However, the Dalai Lama made Tibet and it's very precious, amazing culture and religion well know, and thus benefited the whole world.

When did Dalai Lama come to India?

At the age of two, Tenzin Gyatso was recognized as the reincarnation of the 13th Dalai Lama. Thirteen years later, in 1950, he was enthroned as the 14th Dalai Lama of Tibet. The Nechung Oracle was his oracle, and the official state oracle for Tibet. The Nechung Oracle had predicted that the 14th Dalai Lama would lose his country. He also predicted that the Dalai Lama would lose his life if he didn't leave in 1959. For that year, there was an attempt to end nine years of Chinese occupation. The uprising failed, and the Chinese eliminated the resistance movement. Though himself a Hindu, Indian Prime Minister Nehru let the Dalai Lama set up a government-in-exile just across the Tibet-India border, in Dharmsala. For Dharmsala already had an established Tibetan community, and established Buddhist monasteries. It has been predicted that if the Dalai Lama lives to be 100, he will get his country back.

Did the Dalai Lama make the right choice in leaving Tibet?

The Dalai Lama's decision to leave Tibet in 1959 was a choice made under extreme duress, as tensions escalated with the Chinese government following a failed uprising. His departure allowed him to preserve his life and continue advocating for Tibetan autonomy and cultural preservation from abroad. While some may argue that staying could have fostered negotiations, his leadership from exile has drawn global attention to Tibet's plight. Ultimately, the decision reflects a complex balance between personal safety and the broader struggle for Tibet's future.

Who was the ninth Dalai Lama?

The 9th Dalai Lama's religious name was Lungtok Gyatso. He died at only 9 years of age, and was the first of three Dalai Lamas to die before reaching 20. He was made the Dalai Lama in 1907 when he was just 1 year old. Thomas Manning, an English sinologist who was famous for being one of the first people to study Chinese culture in great depth, and was the first Englishman allowed to enter Lhasa, visited the 9th Dalai Lama in 1812, when he was 7. He said, 'The lama's beautiful and interesting face engrossed all my attention,' Manning wrote. 'He had the simple, unaffected manners of a well-educated princely child. His face was, I thought, affectingly beautiful. He was of a gay and cheerful disposition. I was extremely affected by this interview with the lama. I could have wept through strangeness of sensation.' The Dalai Lama died from a severe cold on 6th March 1815, and as a result the whole of China was plunged into (mental) depression until the reincarnation of the next Dalai Lama, Tsultrim Gyatso.
