It wasn't a car commercial, but a Chase credit card commercial (obviously didn't do its job if we don't remember the product.) The Nick Drake song mentioned below is used in an actual car commercial, but doesn't sound as much like Dave Matthews as Five for Fighting does. I think you might have meant 100 Years, Five for Fighting, The Battle for Everything. I heard that commercial too and was asking the same question. I wondered what that song was for years. It's called 'Pink Moon', by Nick Drake.
