Anecdotally, my grandfather, a Navy cook, said that the first "traditional" (North Eastern-New England) Thanksgiving dinner he ever cooked was on Nov 26, 1941, due to Eleanor Roosevelt's efforts to provide such to all the military. Have never been able to verify this.
