Ferdinand Magellan did not himself make it around the world. He died fighting natives in the Philippines during the journey. But the entire voyage around the world took nearly three years, from September 20, 1519 to September 6, 1522.--Magellan and his five ships sailed from Seville on August 10, 1519 and left Spain on September 20, 1519.The one surviving ship returned to Spain on September 6, 1522, under the command of Juan Sebastian Elcano. Magellan died in the Battle of Mactan on April 27, 1521.
At the age of ten Magellan worked for the Queen of Portugal. By the time he was 35 he had worked for many people which I do not know but he left Portugal for Spain and worked for the King there to take a voyage to the Spice Islands.
3 years or 1,124 days. The ship was the Victoria, which set sail from Seville in 1522 with Ferdinand Magellan(born: Portugal) at the helm. Magellan died during the voyage, and Juan Sebastian Elcano (born: Getaria, Basque Country) took his place.
