Roosevelt didn't start the war. It began on September 1, 1939 when Nazi Germany invaded Poland. Within 2 days Britain and France declared war on Germany. The US remained officially neutral, although Roosevelt did much Behind the Scenes to provide aid to Britain and its allies.

On December 7th, 1941 Japan attacked Pearl Harbor which was the spark that got the United States into World War II. President Franklin D. Roosevelt said that it was "a day that will live in infamy." However, the attack on Pearl Harbor was known weeks prior and it was encouraged, wanted, and provoked. In the early and mid months of 1941, Roosevelt had done everything he could to anger the Japanese. He stopped all of Japan's imports with American petroleum. The stopping exports of petroleum to Japan was the main reason for Japan's attack. He made large public loans to China and gave military aid to the British, who were both enemies of Japan in the war. He froze all Japanese assets in the United States. He had is photos taken while showing a posture of aggression. On December 4th, Australia informed President Roosevelt about a Japanese task force traveling east. President Roosevelt shrugged it away and did nothing. Roosevelt had his hands in the pockets of the international bankers the whole time. His family had been big time New York bankers. His uncle Frederick Roosevelt was on the first Federal Reserve Board. President Roosevelt wanted a war for one reason, money. On December 7th, 1941 Japan attacked Pearl Harbor killing 2,400 soldiers. Before Pearl Harbor eighty-three percent of Americas did not want anything to do with the war, but after Pearl Harbor one million men volunteered for service.
