The Far Side cartoonist Gary Larson is alive and well .
Gary Larson (born August 14, 1950) is a cartoonist famous for his mostly one-panel daily cartoons entitled "The Far Side" (1979-1995). The absurd but intellectually clever cartoons became extremely popular, and Larson edited collections for books and calendars until his retirement. Larson has been honored by having two insect species named for him. In 2003, he drew the cover for the cartoon issue of The New Yorker.
