Did George Washington contribute anything before the Revolution?

I believe George Washington was a successful, young officer in the French and Indian War before the Revolution. One history teacher I had described George Washington as 'almost obsessed with duty' in the military and later as president. Other than that, I know he married well to wealthy Martha Washington before the Revolution. Basically, he was a soldier all his life, and then president at the end of his life. Hope this helps.

Also, Washington was a military Engineer and Land Surveyor, and surveyed throughout much of the Colonies.
