No; they did it of their own accord. Germany was not involved with the attack on Pearl Harbor - legend has it Hitler was upset with the Japanese for 'jumping the gun', and bringing America into the war.

Was the Japanese and Germans working together in World War 2?

The Japanese, Italy, and Germany became the Axis through the Pact of Steel, though they did not send much military aid and usualy didn't inform each other of an attack on the Allies (like in pearl harbour Japan didn't tell Germany or Italy they were going to attack). So they were working together but they didn't send any armies to help each other.

Why didn't Japan tell its allies about attacking Pearl Harbor?

Japan sought a true surprise attack and did not share this information for fear of it being compromised .

What would it be like if japan did not attack pearl harbor?

ANSWER by Engl1sh: Unfortunately I can't tell you exactly what it would be like, but to guess I would say that Germany would have taken completely over Europe. At the time of Japan's attack, Germany had already been bombing Britain, taken over many countries already, and was facing only a possible defeat in Russia. If Japan had not attacked the United States, America would not have joined the war (at least not as quickly as it did), and it's likely that Japan would now control China, Germany would have invaded all of Europe after eventually conquering Britain, and the United States would have possibly ended up in an even bigger war against Germany/Japan. Not to mention the fact that millions more would likely have been killed by the ruthless Adolf Hitler (who wouldn't have committed suicide).

Was the attack on Pearl Harbor a surpise?

Yes, the attack on Pearl Harbor was a surprise attack. The nation of Japan was going to tell America that it was coming but the Japanese man typing the message was having problems with the English language. NO DIP SHERLOCK!

What was the defining moment in us history that led to tha us getting involved in world war 2?

The Pearl Harbor attack - the so-called 'Day of Infamy' - brought America into the war, right and proper. The US government could no longer tell themselves the war was none of their business, and attacked Japan in retaliation for the surprise attack.

Why did Japan begin an aggressive policy of imperialism in the late 19th and early 20th centuries?

Because of the nuclear attack on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. They were like silent bombs so that they can tell the whole world that they have the potential to stand on ground with firm basis of industry, intellect and power.
