You're right, religion was very important to ancient Egyptians. Their whole life was based and focused on what would happen in the Afterlife. It was very important that they make the journey to the Afterworld, and serve their mighty gods.
Quite the opposite. The Egyptians believed very strongly in an afterlife, and they wanted to make sure they prepared for it. They mummified dead bodies, because they believed the person's spirit (their "ka") would thus be preserved and able to enter the afterlife, at which time the person would be brought back to life and reside with the gods. In their tombs, Egyptians also preserved artifacts and objects they believed they would need in the afterlife, and the wealthiest Egyptians preserved items that would please or impress the gods.

These cults focused on personal salvation and promising an afterlife in contrast to the state-sponsored religions of the time. Examples include the Eleusinian Mysteries and the Cult of Isis.

Before, they were solely concentrated on their salvation. During the renaissance, they focused more on worldly things and the human experience rather than salvation.
Islam is not focused on any religion. The Holy Qoran was revealed to Prophet Mohammad as a Scripture from Allah (God) for the people of this world. The followers of this Book and the teachings of the Prophet Mohammad are called Muslims, and the religion is known as Islam.
