Helen Keller was given an Akita dog by the Japanese around 1937, it was named Kamikaze-go. Kamikaze-go died, and was replaced (again by the Japanese), by his older brother, Kenzan-go. These dogs were pets, not Service or Guide dogs for Helen, as they were not trained to do work or perform tasks for Helen.
Because she loved all dogs
Helen Adams Keller loved dogs. Her parents probably bought her a dog to comfort her in the darkness. THIS IS NOT FOR SURE!!!
Helen Keller absolutely loved dogs! She actually once had eight at the same time. Also, Helen Keller was the first person in America to own an Akita, a Japanese dog breed.
An Akita. Her service dog was a pitbull. This is not true
She had many dogs, but I don't remember any named Maggie... my favorite one of her dogs was a Boston Terrier named Phiz :)
My book that I have says that Helen liked working in her garden and playing with her dogs. She died on June 1st, 1968. She was nearly 88, and was a truly amazing and inspiring person.
Helen Keller loved hot dogs, Helen Keller's name was really Adam Keller. Helen Adams Keller was born on June 27, 1880, in Tuscumbia, a small rural town in Northwest Alabama, USA. Helen was an excellent typist. She could use a standard typewriter as well as a braille writer. In fact, she was a better typist than her companions Anne Sullivan Macy and Polly Thomson. Helen loved animals, especially dogs. She owned a variety of dogs throughout her life. The first Akita dog in the United States was sent to Helen from Japan in 1938. Helen visited 39 countries around the world during her lifetime. Helen won an Oscar for the documentary about her life, "Helen Keller in Her Story."
