In 1817 he strengthened the Nation's military and their administrative structure. and in 1828 he wrote essay titled "South Carolina Exposition and Protest"

He didn't do anything major like start a war, or lead a protest, sign a bill or win a court case. Although, his speeches were very popular, and he was a great supporter of slavery.

He was an advocate for the apologists and wanted slavery to be sustained throughout the states, even in newly admitted states.

He also wanted a delicate balance between North and South, with no war, but he made it clear if the North did not comply with the South's opinion, there would be a war.
