When James Chadwick discovered the neutron, his discovery led to important revisions in the atom model. Chadwick's work with Ernest Rutherford partly allowed Rutherford to develop a model in which the nucleus consists of two types of nucleons--positively-charged protons and negatively-charged neutrons--surrounded by orbiting electrons.
Rutherford proposed that the atom consists of a small, positively charged nucleus surrounded by negatively charged electrons orbiting around it. He conducted the gold foil experiment which led to the discovery of the nucleus and the proton.
Rutherford discovered and proposed the theory that every atom consists of Nucleus. electrons revolve around the nucleus in circular orbits. His theory is regarded as Nuclear theory of atomic model. He also proposed the theory of neutrons. James chadwick one of his associates proved that and earned nobel prize
Scientists have accepted that the nucleus of the atom consists of neutrons and protons since the early 20th century, around the 1920s. This understanding was developed through experiments by scientists like Ernest Rutherford and James Chadwick.
Rutherford's conclusion that atoms could be transformed and that each atom potentially carried a tremendous amount of energy earned him the Nobel Prize for Chemistry in 1908. Soddy would also win a Nobel Prize in 1921.
Before Rutherford, scientists assumed that the atom was a single particle. Rutherford presented his revolutionary, physical atomic model that suggested an atom consists of a central charge (the term 'nucleus' was coined after Rutherford's model was presented) that is surrounded, presumably, by a cloud of orbiting electrons. He showed that most of an atom's mass was located in the atom's nucleus. Rutherford's model was later improved upon by Niels Bohr, father of the Bohr-model. Rutherford made no connection to an element's atomic number and the number of protons within an atom's nucleus; however, his atomic model paved the way for the discovery of this correlation only a couple years after his model was designed.
Rutherford Discovered Many key factors of the atom. Especially about Protons and Electrons. He Did Not Know about neutrons. He Concluded That The atoms electron cloud was positive and electron floated around it like chocolate chips in a cookie.

We should never say that an experiment has proven something. The Rutherford gold foil experiment led to the hypothesis that an atom's positive charge is concentrated in an incredibly small space at the atom's center.
After Rutherford's discovery(Planetary Model), scientists started to realize that the atom is not ultimately a single particle, but is made up of far smaller subatomic particles. Following it research was done to figure out the exact atomic structure which led to Rutherford's gold foil experiment. They eventually discovered that atoms have a positively-charged nucleus in the center. Since electrons were found to be even smaller, this meant that the atom consists of mostly empty space.
Electrons consists of negative ions.
The Bohr-Rutherford diagram of sodium consists of a nucleus with 11 protons and 12 neutrons, surrounded by two electron shells. The first shell contains 2 electrons and the second shell contains 8 electrons. Sodium has one electron in its outermost shell, which makes it reactive and likely to form ions.
