Actually, it was the opposite. John and Yoko separated in 1973. John, who was somewhat helpless on his own (since so much was often done FOR him in Beatle days) needed someone to help him. Yoko chose one of her personal assistants, May Pang, to be John's companion and assistant while they were apart. The relationship between John and May did NOT start off to be sexual, it developed into one during an eighteen month period. May chronicled the story in her book, Loving John. So it might be said that the breakup led to an affair. That story is well known. However, other accounts say that Yoko caught John "in the act" at a party in 1973 which led to the separation.
