Which of the Beatles are still alive and which are not?

User Avatar
Paul McCartney and Richard Starkey (Ringo Starr) are still alive. As of November 2010, McCartney is 68 years old (although in the late sixties there were (ridiculous) rumours that he had died and been replaced in the Beatles by a doppleganger) and Starr is 70. John Lennon and George Harrison are dead. John Lennon was murdered outside his New York home on the 8th December 1980, at age 40. George Harrison died of cancer on the 29th November 2001, at age 58. Of their earlier pre-fame members, Stuart Sutcliffe, their original bass player, died of a cerebral hemorrhage in 1962 at age 21, and former drummer Pete Best is still alive at age 68.

Where when and how did John Lennon die?

User Avatar
On the evening of Monday, December 8, 1980, 40-year-old John Lennon was shot four times in the back (the fifth shot missed) in the entrance hallway of the Dakota, with hollow-point bullets from a Charter Arms .38 revolver, by Mark David Chapman. Lennon had autographed a copy of Double Fantasy for Chapman earlier that same night. Two bullets struck Lennon in the lower back and two more in his left shoulder. All four wounds caused serious internal damage, and at least one of them pierced in Lennon's aorta. Lennon staggered up the four steps to the security/reception area and said "I'm shot" and collapsed. Concierge John Hastings at first thought it was a joke, but then summoned the police by hitting the silent alarm button. Lennon was pronounced dead on arrival in the Emergency Room at the Roosevelt Hospital at 11:15 p.m. The cause of death was reported as hypovolemic shock, after losing more than 80% of blood volume. On the following day, December 9, 1980, Lennon's wife Yoko Ono issued a statement: "There is no funeral for John. John loved and prayed for the human race. Please do the same for him. Love, Yoko and Sean." Instead of a funeral, ten minutes of silence was observed worldwide the following Sunday, December 14, at 2 p.m. ET. Chapman later pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and was sentenced to 20 years to life. He is still in prison, 27 years since his arrest, having been denied parole five times. (He became known to the surviving Beatles and their friends as "He whose name shall not be mentioned.") Two days after his death, Lennon's body was cremated at Ferncliff Cemetery in Hartsdale, New York. The ashes have been said to be sprinkled around Strawberry Fields, as well as in personal possession by Yoko Ono. Yoko Ono kept his bloodstained glasses after he died.

Who were the Beatles?

User Avatar
The Beatles were the most amazing rock band ever(and yes that is a fact) from Liverpool, England and are the most critically acclaimed recording act in the history of popular music. The band's members were: John Lennon (John Winston Ono Lennon), born October 9, 1940 and was murdered on December 8, 1980 - Vocals, rhythm guitar, keyboards, harmonica and songwriter. Paul McCartney (James Paul McCartney), born on June 18, 1942 - Vocals, bass guitar, guitar, keyboards, and songwriter. George Harrison, born on February 25, 1943 and died of cancer on November 29, 2001 - Vocals, lead guitar, sitar and songwriter. Ringo Starr (Richard Starkey), born on July 7, 1940 - Vocals and drums. The Beatles disbanded in 1970. All four went on to further successful careers in music, movies, production, etc. Early members of the Beatles included Stu Sutcliffe (June 23, 1940 - April 10, 1962; bass guitar) and Pete Best (born November 24, 1941; drums). There are frequent references to a "Fifth Beatle", the most obvious and probably top of the list being their producer, Sir George Martin, another being longtime road manager, personal assistant, and CEO of Apple, the late Neil Aspinall. Drummer Jimmy Nicol filled in for Ringo Starr for a few tour dates, but was never an official member of the group. Billy Preston played with them on Let It Be, but was not a permanent member.
Asked in The Beatles, Michael Jackson

Was Michael Jackson richer than the Beatles and Elvis?

User Avatar
Yes, Michael Jackson is the richest Musician to ever exist. Within a week of his death he had erased over 500 million dollars of debt. After This is It was released his family made 600 Million Dollars, One Year after his Death Michael Jackson had made well over 1 Billion dollars, more than any other Musician in History. The Beatles have made hundreds of Millions of Dollars as well as Elvis but neither were around when so much money was in the Music Industry. Besides Michael Jackson owned the Beatles Catalogue so basically any money to be made in their songs was going to him. The Catalogue's worth has increased dramatically due to its previous owner making it worth an extra 2 Billion Dollars To this day Michael Jacksons empire is worth over 12 Billion Dollars

Are vinyl shower rod covers still available?

User Avatar
8/15/09 I ordered one from McClendon's online this spring and just ordered another. No problems with the service or quality. The price was only $3.99, but the shipping was $11.36. A bit pricey, but I could only find quantities of 12 elsewhere. 5/25/09: I found them at Anna's Linens in lots of colors and they were only 99 cents each! I have several more metal closet bars that need to be covered so I am thrilled to know where I can get them. They are not quite as thick as the one I bought at Walmart many years ago, but they work to keep my hangars from screeching across the metal! 5/25/09 - None of the places listed below carry the shower rod covers anymore, not even McLendon's (at least it's no loner available on their website). However, there is good news: Space Age Plastics, Inc. has them in 18 different colors for just $2.50 each. But, the "catch" is that you have to order a minimum of six. The nice thing is that you can mix-and-match colors. The website link is http://www.spaceageplastics.com/show_cat.php?catid=14 5/6/09 I checked all of these places listed here and the only place I found them was McLendon's Hardware...still $1.99! Thanks, I've been looking for awhile now. 6/23/08 Bought some today at McLendon's Hardware, online. $1.99 each, and reasonable shipping. They offered quick and friendly customer service. I'll add a P.S. if this order doesn't go smoothly. Otherwise, assume it was uneventful. Recently bought one at Home Depot in their bathroom section. Also found on-line by googling "shower rod covers". 5/11/08 Update. I have looked at Lowes, Home Depot, Bed Bath & Beyond, Linens 'N Things, Walmart, Target, The Great Oudoors, Sears, True Value, Ace Hardware, Ebay and Googled "shower rod covers" All I can find is a couple sites online that require you to purchase a minimum of 12 or 24. I think its safe to say that you can't buy them retail any longer. Which is a shame! 8/30/08 Update: I just purchased a black cover at Bed Bath & Beyond for $1.49. I was/am looking for a chrome one if anyone comes across it. Found them for $5.00 @ http://www.usawallpaper.com/shcurod.html GO GIT 'EM ! 7/14/2010 I just called Anna's Linens in Greenville SC and they HAVE them!!!!!!!!

Asked in The Beatles

Which beatle often played his instrument upside down?

User Avatar
At the very beginning of their music career - when they were still in Liverpool - Paul was seen to be playing guitar upside down. This is because he is left handed and left handed guitars had to be custom made and were expensive. Therefore, it was easier and cheaper for Paul to flip the guitar and rearrange the strings for a left handed player.
Asked in The Beatles

Did the lead singer in the beatles get shot?

User Avatar
If you are referring to John Lennon, he isn't exactly the 'lead singer' as they all sang lead on at least eleven songs (Ringo). John Lennon was shot in December 1980 by Mark David Chapman, a crazed person who shot him after asking for his autograph. He says he did it to be as famous as John.

What film did The Beatles make for television?

User Avatar
They made 5 films - A Hard Day's Night, Help!, Magical Mystery Tour, Yellow Submarine and Let It Be. Magical Mystery Tour was the one made for television. Let It Be was planned as a television special, but it was decided later that a theatrical release would better recoup the money they'd spent in making it.

What artists inspired The Beatles?

User Avatar
Elvis - "without Elvis, there'd be no Beatles", John Lennon. Buddy Holly - took their name from his band, The Crickets. Little Richard - played together in Hamburg, "I taught Paul McCartney how to go *WOO-OOOOOOO*!!!"(on The Simpsons). Bruce Channel - taught John Lennon how to play the harmonica. Roy Orbison - 'Please Please Me', plus a few other songs, were inspired by him(try singing Please Please Me with Roy's characteristic voice and you'll hear exactly how similar it sounds...even without doing anything to the tone or tempo). There's a bunch more, Ray Charles, Gene Vincent, etc. From other realms of "art", Yoko Ono definitely inspired at least John, who also took inspiration from literary artists such as Lewis Carroll, Edward Lear("it's based on a novel by a man named Lear", in 'Paperback Writer'), etc. I can't cite specifics off my head for further influences, including painting, hairstyles(such as their moptop, which came from Astrid Kirshner and German "exi's", or existentialists), or other cultural influences(psychedelia, etc).
