on the may flower it was an agreement that would govern the new world as the pilgrims would begin to live there like the Constitution

To ensure the Pilgrims would follow a democratic government instead of a monarchy, like England. They wanted equal representation of voting men, and the Mayflower Compact was a contract that bound them to it.

The pilgrims did not neccesarily have to make the Mayflower Compact, but decided to make it to have some type of order in the "desolate" land they were entering.

John Wheelwright was the main leader of the New Hampshire Colony. He later founded a compact known as the "Exeter Compact". It is sort of like the Mayflower Compact but more precised This "Exeter Compact" was a huge success Hope this helps.
