No, John identified and baptized the Messiah(John 1:29-34) and was loyal until his own death, faithfully fulfilling his commission to prepare the way for the Messiah (Matthew 11:2-11)(Matthew 11:18-19) He was the 'doorkeeper' who opened the way to the Messiah (John 10:1-3+11), and as John's preaching and baptisms declined, Jesus' work increased, and John was thrilled with this because it was fulfillment of prophecy(John 3:26-30). On learning of John's death, Jesus was still deeply moved (Matthew 14:1-13), so John never betrayed Jesus.

John the Baptist did not repent for accusing Herod of his incestuous relationship and, so, found himself imprisoned and beheaded. His head was presented to Solome, Herod's grand-niece/stepdaughter as a favor to her for dancing for Herod. See Mark 6:14-29.

Another answer:

He was calling people to repent and prepare the path for the promised messiah.

According to The Bible (*and that's what we should go by) a SAINT is any BELIEVER in Yeshua (Jesus) as the Messiah. But some teach a person only becomes a Saint after they are dead and have done something great. Guess what; after one is dead, we can't do anything, but the main thing here is: 'Do we Obey GOD or man?'. It better be God! And His word shows that all of us believers that believes in the SON of GOD, we are all Saints, or as I say: 'We are all BELIEVERS!'

YES! Even though he may not have as an adult in the wilderness while preparing for his mission, yet he is human and all humans are born with the propensity to sin because of Adam and Chavah's(Eve's) original sin which entered the world of mankind and will remain until the Judgment.

Every person besides Yeshua(aka Jesus) has sin, even Yeshua ended up with our sin as He was dying, He became sin for us! 2Cor.5:21 But yet No Greater man was ever born than John the Baptist, except Christ-Matt.11:11

Yes. The Bible says, "For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God." The only person who never sinned was Jesus, because He was God's Son.

Why do Catholics believe John the Baptist was born with out original sin?

Catholics have long held that John the Baptist was born without original sin as they believe that he was purified from original sin while still in his mother's womb when the Blessed Virgin Mary, pregnant with the Divine Savior, visited her cousin St. Elizabeth and the baby, John, "leaped" in his mother's womb (see Luke 1:41 ff). Please note that this is entirely different from the Blessed Virgin Mary. For her, it is a defined dogma of the faith that she was conceived immaculately - without any stain of original sin ever touching her. John the Baptist was conceived in the normal way, and with original sin, but was purified before his birth NOT his conception. Plus, John being born without original sin is a pious belief, not a defined doctrine. And Our Blessed Lord, Himself, said that John the Baptist was the greatest of the Old Testament prophets and saints, exceeding even Moses and Elijah, both of whom ancient Jews commonly believed had not died but been assumed into heaven at the end of their lives.
