Did Lewis and Clark use a telegraph?

There were no telegraph lines before Lewis and Clark died (1806 and 1838, respectively). So, unless they were in the research laboratories of Samuel Morse in 1835, they would not have "used" one.

The first telegraph line from Baltimore to Washington, D.C., was first tested in 1844.
