Mary Queen of Scots was born on December 8, 1542, at Linlithgow Palace in Scotland. After her father, King James V, died when she was just six days old, Mary became queen. She spent much of her childhood in France, where she was betrothed to the dauphin, and she returned to Scotland as queen in 1561.
she was not related to it, she used to live there
Linlithgow Palace, Scotland until the age of 6. She then moved to live at the French court and at 16 married the King of France's eldest son Francis.
She lived in France for the first 17 years of her life, then she came back to Scotland and few laters she fled to England. She remained imprisoned in England for the next 20 years, until she was executed.
She was promised to Francis II of France as a bride.
If Mary Queen of Scots had killed Elizabeth - a highly unlikely action from her perceived personality - she would have most likely enjoyed a stint as English Queen if she managed to live a substantial amount of time after the assassination of Elizabeth.
At the time of Mary's reign, Borthwick Castle belonged to William Borthwick, 6th Lord Borthwick. Although she never actually lived there, Mary Queen of Scots visited the castle on many occasions. She spent her honeymoon with her 3rd husband - Bothwell - at the castle and also fled to here when the Scottish nobles were after her shortly before her abdication (she escaped dressed as a pageboy). It is now said that her ghost haunts the castle. Hope this helps
