Yes. It was originally called Decoration Day when it was first observed in 1868. Then after World War I and the Korean War it became more frequently called Memorial Day but it was not until 1967 that the name was officially changed.

Decoration Day was the original name of Memorial Day. It was officially declared by General John Alexander Logan on May 5, 1868 and was first observed on May 30, 1868 at Arlington National Cemetery. The name Memorial Day was first used in 1882 but it was not until 1967 that this became the official name.
