In the Gakuen Alice manga, it was shown that Mikan was older than Natsume by a month. Azumi Yuka was pregnant with Mikan when she was still in the Academy and when she escaped she found Igarashi Kaoru, Natsume's mother. Kaoru helped Yuka throughout her pregnancy and when Mikan was born Yuka chose to leave in order to not put Kaoru and her husband in anymore danger. Mikan was born in January 1st and was older than Natsume by approximately 10 months and 26 days.
