MANY people contributed in the struggle for freedom, most notably:
The African National Congress (ANC), and their leaders like Nelson Mandela.
The United Nations and countries in general - placing strict sanctions on South Africa, making it almost impossible for them to export or import. This affected the economy badly, putting pressure on the government to get rid of the racial-segregation laws in the country. In addition, politicians in government like Helen Suzman, and others like Desmond Tutu fought against Apartheid.
Nelson Mandela wanted apartheid to end.
he protested aganist it
yes
People think Nelson Mandela is a very important person who made a change in this world, by thinking about the country he wanted to live in, and thinking, "I don't want to live in a country like this, so I'm going to make a difference."
Because he belonged to the group that was strongly disadvantaged by this system. Apartheid set whites and blacks apart in society, strongly benefitting the whites (in giving them all the real and legal power) and strongly obstructing life and blocking chances for wealth, power and success for blacks. And Nelson happened to be born black in South Africa. So there you have a strong personal motive to fight Apartheid. On top of that , Apartheid did not meet his own moral criteria of how a humane society should be (as it didn't meet the moral criteria of thousands, millions of other people around the globe anymore in the 70ies, 80ies seen the worldwide protests and embargos).
The answer is that Nelson Mandela was released out of jail in 1990 and it ended in 1991. It took so long because after he got out of jail , the violence began to get worse and the African American started to fight back against whites, cops and their army.
My opinion--- For one, I think Nelson Mandela's speech was a lot more motivating than Martin Luther King Jr.'s speech. Martin Luther King Jr. spoke about HIS dreams. He talked about what he saw in his dreams and how he wanted the people to dream about the same thing. Nelson Mandela on the other hand, spoke to the people about what everyone should do. For some reason it seems as though Mandela's speech is more commanding. Or if you want to say more drilling. It, to me, seems that the way he spoke in his speech, would make me want to listen to what he said, and put his words into actions.
Their biggest fear was probably that black people would want to take revenge on them for apartheid and that there would be a lot of violence with the end of apartheid, and that the whole country would be in chaos.
yes
The three characteristics of Nelson Mandela were that he was brave, a man of his word and an anti-apartheid. The three characteristics of Nelson Mandela were that he was brave, a man of his word and an anti-apartheid.
Nelson Mandela was arrested 5 August 1962 and released from prison 2 February 1990. Pro-apartheid South African president, P.W. Botha, had a stroke in 1989 and Botha's replacement, Frederik Willem de Klerk, freed Mandela. Botha had once offered Nelson Mandela release from jail in 1985, but only on the condition that Mandela would stop the armed conflict. Nelson Mandela chose to stay in prison as he believed it was the right thing to do in order to put an end to apartheid.
because he didn't want to be arrested
he didn't want to sabotage anything he wanted good for his country
didn't want to show his legs.
If you want to become more like nelson Mandela all you have to do is except people for who they are and not judge them by the colour of their skin or what they look like...if we had more people like nelson Mandela the world would be a totally different place and we would live in peace.
