There are a lot more than 27 electoral votes. I'm guessing you left out "from Florida", since that's the only state that had 27 electoral votes in 2008.
The other possibility is that you left out a 0: 270 electoral votes would have been sufficient to win the election in 2008, since there are 538 total and 270 is a majority. Only a simple majority is needed to win.
Nearly all states have a "winner takes all" approach to electoral votes, even though this is patently ridiculous. Florida is such a state, and Obama did in fact get all 27 electoral votes from Florida in 2008.
