There is nothing to tell because (1) the story is a myth, (2) Mr. Obama is not a Muslim, and (3) the story about the separate plane for the dog has been repeatedly debunked by every major news organization (including Fox News). Simply put, it never happened. And Barack Obama is a Christian, so there is no problem with his having pets-- his kids have two dogs, Bo and Sunny. Neither travels on a personal plane. I enclose a link to one of the many sites that refuted the "dog on a personal plane" myth.
Obama is actually Christian, and his last name is African-- he inherited his name from his father. But a last name doesn't define what religion a person is. For example, Michelle Obama's cousin, Capers Funnyé is Jewish and a rabbi. But his last name does not sound typically Jewish. These days, you just cannot tell by a person's name, since they might be adopted, or have inherited a unique family name from an ancestor.
Barack Obama was named after his father. It is not related to religion. His father was born in Kenya, where this is a common first and last name. His father was born into an Islamic family, and later became atheist. President Obama grew up away from his father, and has stated that he is a Christian. Basic answer, his name is based on region. It would be much like Micky O'Malley being a very Irish name, but not necessarily indicating Catholic.
