He was offered the crown, I believe & turned it down. In spite of his undoubted talent & devotion I find Cromwell easy to dislike as a personality: Sorry if that offends you.
Puritan.
England has never had a president; the closest is Oliver Cromwell who ruled Britain after Charles I was executed. You may want to look for Prime-Ministers of UK or David Cameron to find pictures of British Prime Ministers.
because he needed to be head of the army instead
because he decieved many people and cromwell didnt want it to happen again and because the king lost 2 wars and cromwell thought it must of been gods will and that god was angry with cromwell.
There is no historical evidence to suggest that Charles II wanted Oliver Cromwell's body to be dug up. In fact, it was actually Charles II who ordered for Cromwell's body to be exhumed and posthumously executed as an act of revenge against Cromwell for his role in the execution of Charles I, his father.
the English civil war was won by Oliver Cromwell (a member of the parliament) who was fighting for democracy. since he won the war, the parliament executed Charles I because of the charge of treason against him. England eventually became a democratic government. at first, the parliament ruled the country, but eventually, they couldn't seem to do the job, so they asked Oliver Cromwell to rule the country, since he was the most enthusiastic suitable and for the job. Oliver Cromwell refused, because he didn't want to have had killed the king just to take his place as king. so he ruled as the government, and kept England democratic...
After he won the Civil War for Parliament, Oliver Cromwell became 'Lord Protector' which basically means like a king but not passed on to your descendants. He was offered the crown but he didn't want to be king so he called himself Lord Protector instead
Oliver Cromwell was a puritan but he didn't let other people play games and he didn't let the church bells to be rung. Oliver Cromwell had some harsh rules such as he didn't let children play football on Sundays or you would have been whipped in public and if you wanted to go to church but you went to the church in another village then you would be fined 50 pence which in those days was alot of money. Oliver Cromwell also stopped the bells and he didn't want the stained glass windows in the church so he took them out and put plain windows in. In my eyes he was a hipercrit because he didn't let you listen to music and play games but he liked listening to music and he did but he punished other people for doing it.by Becky London (who is gay)
Oliver Cromwell was leader of the Commonwealth not the king. He worked as the head of parliament who had a very big say in running the country. He was the first leader of the country who had no royal blood. He was the only parliamentarian who did not want to execute James 1, however he still signed his death warrant.
King Charles I of England is famous for being the losing leader in the English civil war of the 1640's against parliament. Charles was eventually beheaded. He is the only person ever to be made a saint by the Church of England
Assuming this refers to The English Civil War, and Oliver Cromwell - no-one was "covered in warts."Oliver Cromwell, when having a portrait painted, famously instructed the artist to depict him "warts and all," meaning he did not want the portrait to be unrealistically flattering. He had no more warts than anyone else.
Oliver Cromwell is considered avillain in England for a few reasons. First of all, he committed regicide, or to put it simply, he beheaded King Charles I. Many people didn't like King Charles I at the time, but they didn't want to see him put to death. Another reason is because he demolished the monarchy Thirdly, he created a new government and appointed himself as the leader (the protectorate and the lord protector, respectively) and eventually became a tyrant in the process. He banned drinking, gambling and dancing, swearing, christmas, work on sundays, sport on sundays, (which was what a normal person during the time participated in during down time.) All together, these acts were enough to make the Britian's grit their teeth.
