President Cavaco Silva was first elected as president in 2006, and then re-elected in 2011. Cavaco Silva was also elected as Prime Minister in 1985 and served as such until 1995. Prime Minister Passos Coelho was elected as Prime Minister in 2011. He is the leader of the Social Democratic Party (PSD).
