The Church of England. The Catholic Church did hold services in secret and in hidden places.
Church Of England
To hold church services for the townspeople and people of the manor
To hold church services for the townspeople and people of the manor
Not honestly, but most people have a secret sin.
Yes it is permissible to hold church services in a home. I well remember when coming to Australia holding services in the cabin with members of my faith. The Lord said "Where two or more are gathered together in my name there shall I be also". On arriving in Australia our church held services in the local village hall until we built a chapel suitable for holding all church services. In Western Australia we held services in the Bishops home as there was no chapel.
A puritan theocracy is a form of government in which leaders who adhere to strict puritan beliefs hold both political and religious authority. Laws and policies are based on puritan teachings and principles, with a strong emphasis on moral behavior and conformity to religious doctrine.
The Catholic and Anglican Church are quite similar, the main difference being that the Anglican Church allows divorce. Puritans felt both groups were too extravagant with their golden chalices, crucifixes and grandiose cathedrals. Rather, they felt Christians should live a pious, simple life, like that of Christ. They wanted to take away what they felt was an emphasis on the material world.Anglican Catholic Answer! Not to disagree to far with the above! The Catholic Church is the Body of Christ and is the groups of faithful united through their bishops in to that Body!It is wishful thinking to presume that the Holy Roman Church is that Body and the Bishop of Rome to be Christ's Viceroy on earth. It is these latter claims that the Puritans and even some Catholics objected to as they have basis in neither scripture or tradition! The Anglican Church is one of these groups that hold to the Catholic faith, being a Communion of faithful believers. The Orthodox Church is another such. They hold to Christ's revelation, Scripture and Councils, which is the faith of the first thousand years. Besides which they hold to the fulness of the Faith and the Catholic Councils. Why do Puritans reject them both? because they hold to Set Liturgies and believe that the Church is guided by bishops and the threefold ministry and that the Catholic Church is Body of Christ.
I could assume that since most of the people were Christians and there was no building that could hold the entire colony inside, their only option was to hold the services outdoors. Also, the milder weather of the south allowed for that.
The religious group was called puritan because they were supposed to be "pure." They had very strict rules about religion and did not let their people change religions. In a way, they were somewhat the exact opposite of Quakers. Puritans were sometimes flogged if they did something wrong.
There are no doubt people today who hold many of the Puritan beliefs , but they are not called by that name. They belong to Protestant churches such as the Congregationalists, the United Church of Christ, the Presbyterians and Baptists.
Preachers usually do fundraising, so they get a portion of what they raise, from whatever source.Preachers are usually paid by the congregation they serve in. Missionary preachers may be supported by a church or churches in their home country.A pastor of a church is paid out of the church's offerings; if the preacher is an evangelist then he is paid by the church he comes to hold services for.
