Actually, after old Hamlet died, Gertrude married a Norwegian spy so that they would combine the two countries and rule this larger piece of land together. Gertrude eventually becomes impregnated and gives prince Hamlet a brother and a sister.
Queen Gertrude.
Hamlet's mother is Gertrude. She is the queen of Denmark and is married to Claudius. She was originally married to Old Hamlet before he was murdered by Claudius. Gertrude is a weak woman that needs a man around her (ie. her quick marriage to Claudius). Gertrude loves Hamlet dearly, but also watches as Hamlet is sent away to his death.
Claudius was hamlets Uncle and later became his stepfather because his mother Queen Gertrude married Hamlets uncle "Claudius".
The only thing that Gertrude says is, "The lady protests too much, methinks," after Hamlet asks her, "Madam, how like you this play?" The "lady" that she is talking about is the Queen of King Gonzago in The Murder of Gonzago. Gonzago tells his Queen that he will die soon, and says that he hopes the Queen will find a second husband who loves her as much as he does. In response to that, the Queen (who Gertrude calls "the lady") goes on and on about how horrible it is for a widow to take a second husband. Gertrude's comment, "The lady protests too much, methinks," means that the Queen of Gonzago is being melodramatic and unrealistic.
Claudius and King Hamlet were brothers. Gertrude was married to King Hamlet first, and then she married Claudius.
That they tragically love second husbands but that Gertrude's husband is a villain and Jocasta's is not are the ways in which Gertrude in "Hamlet" and Jocasta in "Oedipus Rex" are respectively similar and different.Specifically, Danish Queen Gertrude falls in love with Claudius, the brother and killer of her first husband. Theban Queen Jocasta falls in love with Oedipus, the son and killer of her first husband. But Claudius kills his brother knowingly and treacherously, in order to become king. In contrast, Oedipus murders his father unknowingly, in an act of self-defense.
He is upset because his mom(Queen Gertrude) marries his uncle(Claudius) who is now the king right I don't know the second reason.
Queen Gertrude.
