James Brady was Reagan's press secretary and was with him when John Hinckley tried to assassinate President Reagan. Reagan and Brady were both shot, as well as a secret service agent who tried to shield the President and a D.C. police officer. Brady was shot in the head, but survived and eventually was able to walk & recovered most of his cognitive functions. After the shooting, he and his wife, Sarah, became strong gun control advocates.
