Because in is time they were known to dig up graves and dump the remains somewhere so he put a curse on his grave so that no one would dig him up. Of course, Shakespeare did not put the verse on his grave; people cannot bury themselves. It was the members of his family that inscribed the verse there.

∙ 13y agoNo. The epitaph engraved on his grave says that anyone who moves his bones will be cursed, not that his grave is cursed in any way. The epitaph was almost certainly not written by Shakespeare anyway--how many of us write our own epitaphs? And besides, the epitaph is awful poetry; Shakespeare would have done a better job.
