The election of Warren G. Harding meant a repudiation of Woodrow Wilson's ideals. Wilson's presidency was marked by progressive policies such as the League of Nations and domestic reforms, whereas Harding campaigned on a return to normalcy and a rejection of Wilson's internationalist approach. Harding's victory signaled a desire for a more conservative and isolationist stance, undermining the legacy of Wilson's ideas.
The North Atlantic Treaty, signed in 1949, created NATO, a military alliance between the United States and European nations. This pact signaled that the US was committed to collective security and would continue to engage in global affairs, thereby dispelling the notion of a return to isolationism.
US President Woodrow Wilson suggested an armistice, or "peace without victory" and a return to the pre-war divisions in Europe. When this was rejected by Germany, he ultimately committed US combat forces. The US declared war on Germany in April, 1917.

Woodrow Wilson wanted all the parties involved in WW I to make concessions in his famous "Fourteen Points"-proposal. Germany was specifically asked to evacuate all territories it had occupied in Russia, Belgium and France and to return Alsace-Lorraine to France, which it had annexed after the Franco-Prussian war of 1870. Wilson however quickly discovered that the other Allies had no intention of making a single concession themselves and were only interested in settling old scores to their advantage and make Germany pay for the cost of the war.
