There are two people who state to be Ansem You have the real Ansem called Ansem The Wise, He studied the heartless for years but found out it was to dangerous to continue. But he had an Apprentice called Xehanort who continued his work secretly but went to far and got his heart taken by the heartless. His heart was so strong that the heartless he turned into was in the form of a man. This man called himself Ansem to try and frame Ansem The Wise. He also tried to consume Riku and used Malificent as a puppet to perform his evil tasks. In kingdom hearts 1 Sora, Donald and Goofy defeat the Xehanorts heartless but he rises again in Kingdom Hearts Re:Chain Of Memories Reverse Rebirth to try and consume Riku once more. This time Mickey saves him and Xehanorts heartless is then destroyed. Ansem The Wise kills himself in Kingdom Hearts 2 because he gets the impression that the heartless inavasion was his fault for letting Xehanort continue his work because Xehanorts Heartless is the one that made the heartless stronger and therefore attack all the worlds. Ansem The Wise stopped his research when Sora was 10, Riku was 11 and Kairi was 9.

Ansem the Wise, is the original Ansem, in KH 1 the Ansem they go by is a heartless, with the replica of his understudy, who is the same as Xeanhort from KH 2, Ansem the Wise is the Ansem that made the Ansem reports. Ansem the Wise is the body of Ansem Heartless (KH 1), Xeanhort is the nobody of that heartless, and he is Terra from Birth by Sleep, who was infused heart and soul with Master Xeanhort, the old man from the trailer. Sorry for the spoiler. Terra and Master Xeanhort were fused and that is why he is younger than Master Xeanhort, nd hwy he looks like Terra.

Hm, I would say 1. Let's review the four "Ansems": 1.) There's Ansem the Wise, aka Diz, the "original" Ansem. 2.) His heartless is also called Ansem. Heartless Ansem was the only one who claimed to be the original Ansem, so that's why only he is really an imposter. 3.) Ansem's nobody, Xemnas (Ansem remixed + an x), looks almost exactly the same as heartless Ansem, but this one does not claim to be anyone but what he is. 4.) But if you really want to split hairs, you could count Riku as one of the "Ansems" after his appearance was transformed to look exactly like heartless Ansem. He changes back later on. Convuluted, no? :)

SPOILERNo. The first Ansem was Xehanort's Heartless impersonating Ansem. The second Ansem was Riku, who released the darkness in his heart to change himself into a man that looked like Ansem. Riku did so to be able to wield the power of darkness and protect Sora without darkness consuming him.
