Standard equipment in 1965 was points and condenser. However as an option you could order a transistorized unit for 1964,1965,1966.It came with a magnetic pulse distributor, and ignition pulse amplifier.( Rare)
I have successfully used the Pertronix unit to replace points in a few cars, costs about $65. takes about 1/2 hour. You could also build a transistorized ignition system from a kit by Velleman (BGmicro.com) You keep the points but they last for a very long time as most of the switching current goes through a transistor.
I used to have a 65 mercury park lane convertible with a 390 engine with a points distributor.I replaced it with a mallory electronic ignition. It goes right in the original distributor and you cant even tell it is there.I also used a mallory coil that went with it(bought separately).I am sure they make a kit for that engine since it is a common engine. The exact same kit may fit.Check with your local speed shop or go right to mallory online.I am sure there are many places where you can buy one.I hope that helps.

If one of the wires is green and the other is black, the black one goes to the negative side of the coil and the green one feeds the tachometer.
Should be 9 larger wires (1 to each spark plug and 1 to the coil) Should also be a connector (small wire that leads to the negative side of the coil)
all i know is that it doesnt go to fast
like many collectible cars the price varies on condition and year of production. A 66 gto will go for about 55 grand in ok condition up to maybe 65 to 70 grand in good condition while a gto made in the 70s is more in the 30 grand ball park

Short answer is no. The '64 was one year only, came to a point at the grill that was integrated into the shape of the hood. '65 hood will fit '66 and '67.
There is a notch in the distributor housing. It can only go one way.
unbolt the light from inside the trunk and pull it out and then you will see how the lens comes out.
