Yes, a man from Hull in England crossed the Atlantic from Gran Canary to Brazil in a barrel in 1986. The barrel was 5' 6"ft. He was about 6'ft tall and had to curl up inside with his 25 lt drum of water and squeezy high energy food (?). He fibreglassed a keel on one side to stop it rolling around, and put a submarine style hatch on top, which meant he could lock himself inside when it got rough. He also had a detachable telescopic mast which he used when the weather was fair. He used to straddle the thing like it was a horse as he sailed across. He got into the Guiness Book of World Records for the smallest craft ever to cross the Atlantic. But they stopped publishing it because they didn't want to be responsible for what could happen if anyone ever tried to break it......
