The ancient Babylonians used Cuneiform writing on clay tablets or carved in stone. They did not have books (paper or papyrus codices, with pages bound to a spine and protective covers) as we know them, so "bookmarks" would not have been useful to them.
The book (codex) was a much later Greek invention to make papyrus scrolls more portable and easy to read (they were the first portable random access memory).
